The Millionaire Next Door

Changes I would Make in my Life

A woman wrote to me recently asking for advice on choosing a profitable career:

I am 50.  I would like to . . . find a business that I can develop for the next fifteen years and retire as a millionaire.  Could that be possible?

There is no certainty in accumulating wealth.  And just because some types of businesses are more profitable than others does not assure that business ownership will produce wealth.

Last spring a reporter asked me what changes I would make if given the chance to start all over again in my career.  Actually, I would change very little.  Now that I look back I realize that it would have been beneficial to operate my business in a college town of the smaller variety.
